There’s No Place for Helpful Hate, but on a Plate to be Ate

If it’s wise to swallow our pride, then more so to the wiser, we must swallow the hate on our plate. Referring to the plate of life. Hate is one of those black and white words that leaves no margin for error about the meaning. Someone says they hate you, that’s it. They hate you. It simply boils down to this, “What part of hate don’t you get.”

We have used the word hate in jest. We’ve used it callously as well. Chalk it up to our sinful human nature at its best, or fittingly, its worst. Journalists and I use the word loosely when referring to Linda Valdez of the Arizona Republic and Bob Herbert of the New York Times. Do no-good for their once respected journals with their continued bombardment of hate mongering. What’s worse is that they do it in the name of Patriotism. They are cynical and hateful individuals, prejudiced and hypocritical. Linda Valdez who consistently uses her experiences with, or of, her children as shields for Valdez’s own hate. My teenage child said this and that and I learned so much from them, than the lies and misinformation of my parents…goes on Valdez in many of her Op-EDS. If Linda Valdez’s opinions seemingly are derived from the truths of teenage opinions. Then respectfully I suggest Linda Valdez’s OP-ED would be best published in many, but not all, the teen magazines. For Herbert it’s the race card.

For most people, hate and assumption are left behind when we become adults. We stop whistling in the breeze and spitting in the wind when we reach an age of accountability. But then. That is the crux of the problem with extremist on the Left and on the Right. Accountability, responsibility, isn’t in their vocabulary.

Sure Linda Valdez love’s her children as any other parent. But to wear one’s parenthood on the sleeve of hypocrisy and hate is what? This crown of hypocrisy isn’t worn by Valdez and Herbert alone, there’s a multitude of writers, bloggers and mainstream media that wear their patriotism and family values on a sleeve of hypocrisy. Linda Valdez I notice most because the Arizona Republic is the only print media I receive on my driveway each morning. Most everything else is an online read. Hard not to pick up on the usual Valdez tripe. Never a positive word, only extremist though passionate hate for all she disagrees with. I have plenty to disagree with, but manage to limit any hate for those, or things, that would do personal harm to my family, first. To my country second, domestically or foreign wrongs.

Hate is personal, we have a right to hate, so long as that hate doesn’t derail, mislead, and cause others to stumble because we hate something. Valdez and Herbert have described those who hate as ignorant and fearful people. These two patriot wannabe’s best remove the log from each other’s eye, before that of people they as writers have an accountability and responsibility to, for truth. And yes, Opinion has a responsibility for truth. Otherwise it’s a lie, not an opinion. Of course lies are easier to write than the truth, and assumption even easier.

Over the past three weeks Bob Herbert, and now Linda Valdez in Sunday’s OP-ED of the Arizona Republic called for an investigation into all the crimes and constitutional misuses of the Bush and Cheney administration, then prosecute at will. Their collective patriotism, though maybe well intended, is misguided. Beginning with releasing Gitmo detainees, placing them into

U.S. civilian prisons and courts, followed up by the prosecution and possible lynching of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. It’s hard not to accuse Linda Valdez’s Op-ED ‘Special prosecutor should look at Bush’s handiwork’ in Sunday’s AZ Republic, for plagiarizing Bob Herbert’s Op-Ed December 31, 2008 ‘Add Up the Damage.’ In my comments about Herbert’s ‘Add Up the Damage’ I mentioned, misery loves company. Well, New York meet sleepless in Arizona…

Valdez writes as her reasoning for such investigation, and hopeful prosecutions of Bush and Cheney; “(1) your children are watching; (2) the world is watching; (3) if this administration is not held accountable, some other president will follow Bush’s example.” Linda Valdez rants like a teenage wannabe adult. You need to buy me this, it’s my Right to have that, I’ll tell Grandma because she’s watching and says you should….on, and on, and on. The tirade never ceases.

It’s time for Linda Valdez and the Arizona Republic to grow up. It’s OK, share an opinion, but here’s what the world is wanting from a respected journal. Truth, Trust, Accountability, Responsibility, and Facts. Opinionated writing with passion, without the hypocrisy. Without talking points, and for me, leave out the tunnel vision. Even Op-ED writers should research more than one book before formulating an opinion. Linda Valdez, Bob Herbert and others have ears for only those that agree with them, how ‘Stepford.’
